University of Kashmir
The University of Kashmir has been accredited as “A Grade” University by NAAC of India.
Situated at Hazratbal, an idyllic area on the western side of the fabulous Dal Lake of Srinagar, the University of Kashmir is spread over 263 acres of lush green land with three adjacent campuses of exquisite beauty, Amar Singh Bagh, Naseem Bagh and Mirza Bagh.
The faculty and the departments of the University of Kashmir are working on several significant research projects in which a large number of teachers as well as students are engaged. The University has a mechanism of offering consultancy services. The University is collaborating in teaching, research and exchange of faculty members and students at the national and international level. The several departments of our University have attained the position of eminence at national and international level. The University has been accredited as “A Grade” University by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. The University of Kashmir has expanded its sphere of activity by starting P.G. Centres at remote places like Ladakh, Anantnag and Baramulla, besides setting up postgraduate courses in reputed colleges of Kashmir.
Besides the departmental libraries, the University of Kashmir has a centrally-heated central library, called Iqbal Library, with a vast collection of books, leading national and international journals and magazines and the recently installed internet facility. The location of the library, a magnificent edifice, at a walking distance from the various departments of the University, renders it easily accessible to teachers, research scholars and students of the University.
The career corner has been established for the students who appear in various competitive examinations at International, National, and Regional levels. The corner is rich in collection covering almost all the subjects. There remains a great rush of students appearing in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), National Education Test (NET), Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS),University Entrance Test, , General Aptitude Test (GAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) etc. Special provisions have been made for the purchase of material for these examinations. Consultation at the Career Corner is not only restricted to the University of Kashmir students; the students coming from different institutes of the valley can also consult this collection. Every effort is being made to update the corner in order to encourage the talented students.
University of Kashmir has:

- 54 Departments offering 65 courses in Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, Management and Commerce.
- It has 62 affiliated colleges
- Internationally acclaimed herbarium recognized under the acronym KASH housed in the Centre of Plant Taxonomy
- High altitude research centre for atmospheric studies and medicinal plant research at Gulmarg.
The Department of Students Welfare functions for the overall benefit and the welfare of the student's community of the University. The Department facilitates the participation of the students community with other universities and centres of learning in the country. In addition, the Department fully addresses social concerns via interaction in many forms by establishing Social Service Camps and Financial Assistance to poor students.
