Study architecture in Finland
The Master of Science in Architecture at Aalto University is taught in English and aims to create architecture professionals with the knowledge and skills to perform practical design work and work in co-operation with designers, engineers, and developers.
Students of this master in architecture will cover courses in architecture, theory and history of architecture, building design, urban planning and design.
Graduates of this master degree in architecture will be well prepared for careers in architecture, working as project architects in a company or as entrepreneurs in their own architectural agency, working with new or renovation projects. The public sector is another important employer, with job titles including zoning architect, permit architect, cultural environment manager, museum director and municipal architect.
Suitability and application
The final admission for this Master of Science in Architecture is based on an academic assessment. The evaluation process is competitive and the number of available study places is limited. The used criteria is as follows:
- The applicability of the previous degree, i.e. bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a well reputed school of architecture
- The amount of relevant studies
- The academic performance of the applicant
- The quality of the application as a whole, including the portfolio
The motivation and commitment of the applicant on the basis of a motivation letter.A portfolio consisted of the applicant’s own works is mandatory. The portfolio should widely present the candidate’s architectural and artistic skills and creativity. The evaluation emphasis lies mainly on design drawings and other illustration material. It should be in paper form, easy to handle and no bigger than A3 size.
