Doctorate molecular medicine studies in Cyprus

PhD studies in Molecular MedicineThe Cyprus School of molecular medicine offers a PhD in molecular medicine which can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. This doctorate program includes 1-year of coursework and tutorials and 3-years of PhD thesis work.

The programs will be organized, run and reviewed by CSMM upon approval by the Academic Committee. A minimum of 50 ECTS from the taught courses (including tutorial sessions for each course on a weekly basis) of the program and 190 ECTS from the research part of the program must be completed while enrolled on the doctoral program, of which there will be both compulsory and elective courses.

Successful PhD students will have to pass all course examinations, the PhD thesis examination, and have at least one first author publication in a peer-reviewed journal to be awarded a PhD degree.

The program promotes excellence and educates students on the significant issues in Molecular Medicine. The challenging curriculum includes mandatory courses which cover the main aspects of molecular medicine and a number of elective courses.

The PhD research projects focus on various aspects of molecular medicine and are conducted in the state-of-the-art departments and clinics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING). As an International Centre of Excellence, CING carries out advanced research in molecular medicine.

PhD students are provided with the knowledge and tools to complete a competitive Research or Library Project. Students will also have the opportunity to attend courses (during their 1st year of studies) in innovative fields which include:

  • Brain and behavior
  • Cellular and molecular neuroscience
  • Neurosciences and neurogenetics
  • Cytogenetics and genomics
  • Molecular genetics
  • Molecular basis of monogenic diseases
  • Molecular virology and immunology
  • Molecular Basis of Complex Diseases

The Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine offers accredited PhD postgraduate programs. The programs are offered full-time (4 years). Each postgraduate program consists of mandatory and elective courses which are offered during the 1st year of studies. PhD postgraduate programs also include a research project (years 2-4).

Admission requirements

To be admitted to the molecular medicine PhD program, a student must meet at least the minimum requirements listed below:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited institution, in a related field
  • English Language Certification or other accepted International Standard, if graduated from a school where English is not the teaching language.

A number of full scholarships based on academic criteria will be awarded to CSMM students. The exact amount and number of scholarships that will be offered is always subject to the yearly budget of the School.

Scholarships for the PhD Program will also be available for years 2, 3 and 4.

Degree & diploma

Upon successful completion of the courses, graduates will receive a PhD degree. 

Tuition & fees

The tuition fee for the first year of the PhD in molecular medicine is €5.450.
Scholarships will be available for the years 2, 3 and 4.
