Master’s Degree in Architecture
The purpose of this master's degree is to enable students to work globally in a professional environment in accelerated complexity. The projects that the current society needs have some demanding technological requirements, which can only be undertaken from horizontal work structures, made up of specialists in each discipline. The 3 axes that define the learning space of the Master are:
INNOVATION Training and intensive use of the FAB LAB UEM, a new paradigm of production and thought. The evolution of digital technologies will transform the professional model of the future. Apart from the cross-sectional structures mentioned above, advances in software and hardware related to design and digital manufacturing mean a qualitative change of first magnitude in the way of building space, in projects of any scale. The interactive and evolutionary possibilities of simulations made with parametric design, BIM, together with the benefits of prototyping that enable laser cutters, 3D printers, or robots favor collaboration between areas of knowledge and at the same time the emergence of a new architectural thought . The students of the Master will receive the necessary training from specialists for the maximum use of the FAB LAB UEM, recognized by MIT, which is one of the few centers of its kind that exist in our country.
INTERNATIONALITY 2-week stay in London for an intensive workshop. The internationality of professional activity has ceased to be an option to become an obligation, against which each professional must define its strategy. Even without leaving the hometown, it is increasingly common to belong to productive networks in which one of the project's agents is from another country. In this context, in London we can find some of the most prestigious academic institutions worldwide that lead the development of the future of the profession in the world. For a week, students will have the opportunity to conduct an intensive workshop whose program explores advanced architectural design based on specific information about the environment, and experimentation in manufacturing. The experience will help to reinforce a global awareness towards the practice of the profession and the associated emerging processes.
INTEGRATION Organization of "interdisciplinary project offices" formed by teams of students One of the increasingly important features in the complex professional ecosystem today is to work in an interdisciplinary groups. The collective intelligence of a team gives an evident added value to the work and it is necessary to train the students in the associated dynamics. Respecting the obligatory nature of the PFC must be an individual job, nothing prevents students of different degrees from collaborating in the development of "project offices".
The School of Architecture, Engineering and Design meets the optimal conditions for the implementation of a pioneering collaborative model in Spain. Recent experiences have won prizes in international competitions. The teaching structure follows the workshop format of professors / consultants from different areas of knowledge, professionals of the highest prestige with national and international experience, whose objective is that students reach the highest quality of project, in a coordinated and effective way.
