Program Description

The Bachelor of Journalism at Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning in Toronto, Canada is an education course which provides students with the knowledge and skills required for work as a journalist in a multi-platform digital environment.

Humber's 8-semester Bachelor of Journalism trains students in the traditional journalist skills of researching, reporting, and interviewing in addition to incorporating text, video, and audio into today's web-based environment. Journalism students gain the ability to manage web-based content for both hand-held devices and websites. They also learn how to include social media - Facebook, Twitter, and other interactive technologies - into their journalism.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Journalism study both practical and theoretical aspects of journalism using the latest equipment. Throughout this education program, an emphasis is placed on examining journalism's history and its role in society.

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Journalism, graduates are well-prepared to launch successful careers in the field of journalism as media relations managers, editors, journalists, or communications specialists.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements for the Bachelor of Journalism at Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning in Toronto, Canada are:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • Grade 12U English (ENG4U) with a minimum grade of 65 per cent. If English is not your first language visit the English Language Proficiency Policy
  • Any Grade 11 or Grade 12 U or M Mathe­matics with a minimum grade of 60 per cent
  • Four Grade 12 U or M courses in addition to those listed above with a minimum of 65 per cent overall average
  • Submission of:
    •  a detailed resumé
    • two letters of recommendation
