Founded in 1919, Masaryk University is now the second largest university in the Czech Republic with over 43,000 students. It comprises over 200 departments, institutes, and clinics within nine faculties.
As Masaryk University has become one of Europe's fastest growing higher education institutions, its popularity has increased, resulting in more applications. Due to its high number of applicants, Masaryk University has become the most selective university in the Czech Republic today. Masaryk University is also the first Czech university to implement an electronic application form.
One of Masaryk University's top priorities is scientific research, and the school has been successful in obtaining a number of research grants to develop tools toward innovation. Masaryk University was one of the first Czech universities to introduce a three-tier education structure based on the ECTS system in order to facilitate the transfer of credits between various European educational institutions.
