NOVA University of Lisbon
The Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL, or simply NOVA) was founded in 1973, and is the youngest of Lisbon’s three public Universities. NOVA aims to innovate in higher education in Portugal and to contribute to the social and economic development of the country. The Faculty of Law (FDUNL), commonly known as NOVA Law School, is its youngest offspring. It opened in 1997 to challenge a rather conservative, traditional way of teaching law in Portugal. NOVA Law is a dynamic centre for pioneering research and teaching in new areas of law, while meeting the ever growing demands of academic and professional training.
With over 19,500 students, NOVA University has more than two thousand foreign students from 103 nationalities. The school year in Portugal runs from September to June. Students from outside the European Union who have finished high school and wish to pursue their higher education studies in Europe, can choose to attend a Pre-University Semester at NOVA before applying to a bachelor or integrated masters.
