Computer Information Systems Diploma OkanaganThe Computer Information Systems Diploma at Okanagan College in British Columbia, Canada is an education course which aims to provide students a broad knowledge of computing with a concentration in specific areas of computing which interest them.

Okanagan's 2-year Computer Information Systems Diploma offers courses in computing, communications, business, and mathematics, through which students gain the skills to work in a variety of roles in high-technology companies, government departments, or business organizations. Education courses are grouped into required courses, elective courses, and courses from one or more options. This education program is available as a co-op program, through which students work to complement their study and gain practical skills, drawing the program to 3 years.

Upon completion of the Computer Information Systems Diploma, graduates are well-prepared to launch a successful career in the field of computing, whether as computer programmers, business systems developers, web designers, or database architects. They may also choose to continue their education in Okanagan's Bachelor of Computer Information Systems degree or Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements for the Computer Information Systems Diploma at Okanagan College in British Columbia, Canada are, for regular applicants:

  • have BC senior secondary graduation or equivalent or will be currently completing Grade 12.
  • English Requirements: A minimum grade of 60% in one of: English 12, English 12 First Peoples or TPC 12 (Technical & Professional Communications 12) or an equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education English, or a minimum score of 24/40 (level 4) on the LPI (Language Proficiency Index ). Note: Communications 12 is not acceptable.
  • Computer Studies Requirements: A minimum grade of 70% in ICTS 11 (Computer Information Systems) or ICTP 11 (Computer Programming), or a minimum grade of 60% in ICTS 12 (Computer Information Systems) or ICTP 12 (Computer Programming), or a minimum grade of 73% in Information Technology 12, or a minimum grade of 64% in Okanagan College's COSC 122, or a minimum grade of 79% in Computer Studies 11, or a minimum grade of 72% in Computer Science 12, or a minimum grade of 60% in a computer competency exam administered by the Computer Science Department of Okanagan College. The computer studies requirement must be successfully completed no more than seven years prior to enrollment in the program.
  • Math Requirements: Students graduating from secondary school in or prior to 2012: A minimum of 67% in Principles of Mathematics 11 or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education mathematics course or a minimum of 60% in either Principles of Mathematics 12 or Applications of Math 12 or an equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education mathematics course, or a minimum of 60% in Okanagan College's MATH 120, or a minimum of 64% on the Mathematics 11 Challenge Exam administered by Okanagan College.
