Program description

Study automobile manufacturing in Germany

In this Summer School, students receive an introduction to modern automotive technologies, concepts of mobility, and their grid integration within traffic and city planning.

The program offers an overview of alternatives to combustion engines, with a look at concepts of future vehicle power trains, including structures of alternative power trains. It also covers alternative fuels, such as alcohol, natural gas and hydrogen, as well as their properties and production. Other topics include fuel cells, electric drives, energy carriers and storage and torque and energy converters.

The RWTH International Academy works closely together with the ika, the Institute for Automotive Engineering, the ISB, the Institute of Urban Engineering and Urban Transport, and the ISEA, the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives to offer a perfect mix of technical study and cultural experience.

The program is based on the following pillars:

I. Excellent Science and Research in Automotive and Mobility Studies
Germany has a long history of excellence in automobile manufacturing with such companies as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. In this summer school, students will be exposed to topics such as the new challenges and demands facing the automobile industry: most notably those concerning alternative fuels and the impact of automobiles on the environment.

II. German Language and Culture
Summer school students gain insight not only into the student life in the beautiful city of Aachen but also into the rich and vibrant German culture and history. Through the university’s “BeBuddy” program, international students have the chance to immerse themselves in the vibrant student community at RWTH Aachen University. Participants will get to know Aachen from a true student’s perspective: They learn more about academic and cultural practices in Germany with the support of their German “Buddy” who is typically a student enrolled at the RWTH Aachen University and can so offer first-hand experiences in and around the campus, painting an authentic picture of university life.

III. Social Events - Have fun while studying!

The RWTH International Academy offers an extensive support program next to the academic courses in which participants meet like-minded people from around the world. All students from our different summer school programs are invited to take part in sporting or dancing events, cooking nights and get-togethers with students from various international Master’s programs. There is a wide offer of intercultural activities and excursions in and around Aachen –enjoy your stay!

Being in the heart of Europe, summer school students will also have the opportunity to explore Aachen’s surrounding area – be it other German cities close-by such as the former German capital Bonn, Düsseldorf and Cologne or enjoy the European diversity in cities like Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam.
