Program description

Study a summer program in mechatronics

In this Summer School you will have an introduction in the demanding topics of generating product innovations. You will get introduced into the aspects of mechanical engineering to create and engineer cutting-edge innovative products.

The "Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Product Innovation" Summer School is educationally conceptualized and conducted by the Institute for Engineering Design (IKT), Institute for Theoretical Information technology (TI) and the Institute of mechanism theory and dynamics of Machines (IGM) of the RWTH Aachen University.

The Institute for Engineering Design focuses especially on computer-aided product design and development - the elementary ingredients for innovation and technology leadership. Within their very interdisciplinary team, the IKT provides a practice-oriented education, which is based on distinct cooperation with international industry partners and application-oriented specific research. For decades, the IKT has been training outstanding engineers in the field of systematic product development as a worldwide recognized institution in the field of design methodology and product lifecycle management. In our four competency groups, research is being done on a broad interdisciplinary spectrum of current, future and industry-related issues.

The program is based on the following pillars:

  1. Excellent Science and Research in Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Product Innovation
Students will get introduced into the aspects of mechanical engineering to create and engineer cutting-edge innovative products. Mechatronics is a dynamic, multidisciplinary subject combining three engineering fields: mechanical, electrical and software engineering. This complex intermeshing of disciplines requires profound technical expertise.
  2. German Language and Culture
Through the university’s “BeBuddy” program, international students have the chance to immerse themselves in the vibrant student community at RWTH Aachen University. Participants will get to know Aachen from a true student’s perspective: They learn more about academic and cultural practices in Germany with the support of their German “Buddy” who is typically a student enrolled at the RWTH Aachen University and can so offer first-hand experiences in and around the campus, painting an authentic picture of university life.
  3. Social Events - Have fun while studying!

The RWTH International Academy offers an extensive support program next to the academic courses in which participants meet like-minded people from around the world. All students from our different summer school programs are invited to take part in sporting or dancing events, cooking nights and get-togethers with students from various international Master’s programs.

There is a wide offer of intercultural activities and excursions in and around Aachen – enjoy your stay! Being in the heart of Europe, summer school students will also have the opportunity to explore Aachen’s surrounding area – be it other German cities close-by such as the former German capital Bonn, Düsseldorf and Cologne or the European diversity in cities like Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam.
