Study a Bachelor of Marine Science & Management in Australia

Through this bachelor program by Southern Cross University, students will gain the skills and knowledge required to manage a range of tropical and subtropical coastal and marine environments, focusing specifically on the Solitary Islands, Cape Byron and Great Barrier Reef marine parks. Students will explore a range of specialist topics, including:

  • Ocean change biology
  • Marine community biology
  • Marine pollution
  • Marine ecosystem management

The first two years of study are mostly based at the Lismore campus, with some of the second and most of the third years based at the university's National Marine Science Centre (NMSC) in Coffs Harbour. 

Students will have the option to undertake an eight-week professional placement in order to make industry connections and gain real-world work experience. In the past, students have undertaken internships with organizations, including local, state and federal government agencies, private consultancies and business enterprises throughout Australia and the world. Opportunities for extended residential periods on an island of the Great Barrier Reef are also offered.

Admission requirements

To apply for this program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12 with the required entry grade
  • Proficiency in English (IELTS score of 6.0 overall)
