St George's University of London is collaborating with the largest private university in Cyprus, the University of Nicosia, to offer students a graduate-entry, 4-year MBBS (Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery) education program in Cyprus. Graduates earn a degree from St George's that is recognised as a British primary medical qualification by the UK's General Medical Council and is the exact same degree earned by students in London.
The St George's University of London course is structured around problem-based learning (PBL), a method that presents students every week with a scenario or case history to explore in small groups of eight with faculty guidance. By covering the knowledge base required to understand different aspects of each problem, and complemented by clinical experience, traditional lectures and other learning approaches, students gradually acquire everything they need to practice medicine.
Students enrolled at St George's University of London medical programme at University of Nicosia Medical School gain clinical experience from the outset, starting with community clinical attachments in Cyprus during Years 1 and 2 of the curriculum. Clinical rotations in Years 3 and 4 are at leading teaching hospitals in Europe, Israel and the United States.
St George's University of London is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), which allows graduates to obtain residencies and licensing to practice medicine worldwide.
The success of the St George's University of London graduate-entry curriculum, the first of its kind in the UK, has led many other medical schools around the world to create similar programmes. However, this is the first time that the St George's MBBS degree is delivered outside of the UK, which offers students a unique opportunity for an exciting international medical education experience.
