Master's Degree in Archaeology
Archaeology has widened its borders significantly in recent decades. However, two of the most important areas that archaeology has turned to are Archaeological Heritage Management in all its dimension and research and teaching in universities and research centers.
These two focus areas are the inspiration behind this Master's program. The two objectives and intensities of this program are professional practice and research. Archaeological practice, either in the field of research or in professional practice, involves accepting a set of basic principles that should be present in the syllabuses of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Archaeology that are being taught or prepared for teaching.
Suitable candidates include those who hold a degree in history, history and geography, philosophy and arts (geography and history) or other similar bachelors’ degrees. Other suitable degrees are history of art, geography, anthropology, classical philology and Semitic philology (of the same branch of knowledge as arts and humanities). Other branches of study such as architecture, technical architecture, building engineering, biology, geology, medicine or Surveying are also suitable.
Irrespective of the qualification, this post-graduate course is recommended for students with a profile that shows an interest in the different aspects encompassed by archaeology: willingness for multi-disciplinary work and team work, a desire to discover and conserve the cultural heritage in general and the archaeological heritage in particular, a desire to apply the right methodology to solve theoretical and practical problems and an ethical commitment in practicing the profession.
