Fashion DesignUFV offers an exciting introduction to the world of fashion leading to a unique two-year Fashion Design diploma. The program combines just the right balance between fashion design, production, textiles and leading-edge computer technology required for a career in the fashion industry. You will develop the artistic vision and technical knowledge to create garments for a wide range of markets while exploring each stage of the fashion industry. So if you're looking for a creative career that will be challenging and rewarding, UFV's Fashion Design program reflects what is happening in the world today.Once you earn your Fashion Design diploma, our career options are many and varied. The fashion industry has a wide variety of exciting careers and job opportunities that include design, production, and business opportunities to name a few. This program will prepare you for entry-level positions in the following areas: Apparel manufacturing and production; Pattern development; CAD applications for apparel - pattern digitizing, grading, marker making; Design and product development; Textile design and production; Theatre costume design; Fashion marketing and sales; Freelance business opportunities; Styling; Trend forecasting; Merchandising.

Admission requirements

To qualify for the Fashion Design diploma, you must be a high school graduate, or at least 19 years old on the first day of class.Eligibility for the program is based on an interview and portfolio review, which is arranged after your application has been received. Your portfolio should include:- a variety of garments- fine art work- samples of technical drafts- a resume- a 300-word statement about the field of Fashion DesignApplicants will also be assessed for their communication and math skills. Admission to the Fashion Design program is on a competitive basis, and meeting the minimal requirements does not always guarantee your admission into the program.If you currently live outside the Lower Mainland, a distance portfolio review is available by request. Download an application form and submit it, along with the 45 dollar application fee and all other documents required to the Admission and Records office at any UFV campus or centre.Application opens October 1 for the following fall intake. Specific requirements are detailed on the UFV website and calendar. If you plan to start your studies in September, your application should be received by January 31 of that year. Applications received after this deadline will be considered if space is still available in the program.Once we have received your complete application package, you will be notified of the orientation and interview dates, which are typically held in the spring.

Tuition & fees

It's best to consult the UFV calendar at for tuition fees, keeping in mind that new fees are usually set in May. Additional costs for textbooks, supplies, field trips, practicum expenses, and other fees range between 1,650 dollar and 1,750 dollar each year. Some supplies are sold as pre-packaged kits from instructors, while others are available from the UFV bookstore.
