Study Clinical Linguistics at Groningen
The Masters in Clinical Linguistics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands is part of the European Masters education programme in Clinical Linguistics (EMCL). This education course includes general linguistics, neuro-imaging and language processing, developmental language disorders, language breakdown, and methodology courses. It is offered by three universities: the University of Groningen, the Netherlands; University of Potsdam, Germany and University of Eastern Finland.
The 2-year Masters in Clinical Linguistics at the University of Groningen is an interdisciplinary and transnational education which provides students with integrated training in experiemental and theoretical neurosciences and psycholinguistics. The aim is to educate highly qualified students to be prepared for clinical linguistics research work and PhD programmes. Students enrolled in this education learn to identify and descrie developmental and acquired language disorders, form research questions, design experiments to test language ability and speech, and write about their findings.
Upon completion of the Masters in Clinical Linguistics, graduates are well-prepared to pursue a career in speech and language therapy, scientific research, and clinical linguistics. The education programme is also an ideal preparation for a PhD in neurolinguistics. With their knowledge on the theoretical background of various linguistics disorders, graduates of the Masters in Clinical Linguistics are better-equipped to treat people with language impairments.
Admission requirements for the Masters in Clinical Linguistics at the University of Groningen are:
- a Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSc or equivalent) with an emphasis on speech and language pathology, linguistics, biomedical sciences, psychology or special education (with the emphasis on language impairments)
- fluency in English, demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL score of 92-93 (internet-based), 580 (paperbased) or 237 (computer-based), or an overall IELTS score of 6.5
