Program Description

WildernessThe Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies is a three-year full time course, with the possibililty for part-time study lasting no longer than 6 years.

The course is for students who are interested in gaining a wide interdisciplinary understanding of natural environments and wilderness and developing natural environment and wilderness knowledge, skills and techniques that are useful in employment or other related activities.

Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies is structured to allow both a broad understanding of the field whilst also allowing for specialisation in a particular area of interest. The program develops a wide range of general abilities including:

  • communication skills;
  • data collection skills;
  • analytical skills;
  • information retrieval, manipulation and presentation skills;
  • the ability to work across traditional discipline areas.

Graduates of the Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies course will be able to pursue employment in areas such as nature-based tourism, natural area management and natural area interpretation. The broad nature of the course also provides more general employability in the same way as the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts.
