Study a Masters in Oncology in Amsterdam

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and keeps rising due to aging of the population. This research master is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind growth of cancer cells, the effect this disease has on a patient’s life and the influences of risk factors. During this master you will learn all about the pathways involved in cancer onset and development and possible targets for treatment.

You have a biomedical background and are interested in working in a multidisciplinary environment? Do you enjoy working with people who dare to challenge each other in order to get the best results? Does the impact of cancer on a patient’s life and their surrounding trigger you to fight this disease? If so, the Master program in Oncology was made for you!

The Master program in Oncology aims to train (bio) medically oriented bachelors and related bachelors in life sciences to become independent researchers with a depth knowledge in the field of Oncology. In our master program students from different cultural and educational background work together as a group to complete their master’s program. Underneath you will find three examples and what direction it might lead to.

With a biomedical or life science background you can use your knowledge on a diversity of scientific questions in oncology. With a biochemical or biophysical background you can apply your knowledge in oncology and work on the challenges in the areas of improving imaging techniques for early diagnosis and follow-up care in oncology patiens. With a medical background you can work on translational oncology research expanding your knowledge  and advance your skills from researcher to practitioner in a highly stimulating environment.

The master’s program in oncology aims to transfer the unique combination of translational oncology research to the next generation of students. You will be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in cancer research and therapy in a challenging environment by experts in the field.

The program in a nutshell

The Master’s program in Oncology offers you a challenging program with a high degree of freedom to choose among a number of outstanding research groups for practicals and several specialized master courses. The program coordinator advises you during your career development and helps you to set-out a tailor-made program of your interests. The program has a duration of 2 years (120 ECTS) and tuition is completely in English.

The Oncology program consists of compulsory courses, optional courses, a study of literature and two research internships. You have the possibility to choose one of our international partners for your major internship.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements:

  1. An academic bachelor’s degree in bio-medically, biotechnology or related life sciences.
  2. Basic knowledge of oncology and immunology on Bachelor’s level
  3. Laboratory experience (in oncology is a plus)
  4. Proof of sufficient proficiency in English (English language proficiency test)
  5. Written assessment or Skype assessment
  6. Motivation letter and two reference letters

Tuition fees

The cost of this program for students of EU/EEA countries is €2,060.

After successful completion of your study you have earned the title of Master of Science (Msc). The aim of our research master is to provide you with all the knowledge and skills required to become a highly competitive PhD student. Approximately 75% off all our students will start a PhD program. Of course other employers like biotech companies poly makers and pharmaceutical companies are also interested in versatile students with your background.
