Application Process in Romania

Application Process

Ready to apply to a Romanian program? Luckily the admissions process is pretty straight forward, but it will differ whether you are from the EU/EEA/CH or not.

Non-EU/EEA/CH

For non-EU/EEA/CH students, first you must contact the university that you are interested in attending and apply for the program you want. The university will ask you to complete several forms, one of which will be a preliminary acceptance form, which will ask for various information from you like your residence status, education background, and language proficiency. Once you send this information to the university, you will hear back with a preliminary decision after about 15 days.

That university will then submit an application file on your behalf to the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research who will then make a decision about your admission within 30-60 days. If they decide to admit you, you will receive a letter of acceptance. If you do not get accepted, the Ministry of Education will recommend another university given your preferences.

Once you receive the acceptance letter, you will have to compile several legal documents like your birth certificate and medical certificate, as well as official transcripts from your home country. You will also need:

  • Proof of financial means in your bank account (at least 2,000 Euros)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Health insurance (if you are under 26, you are covered by the university. If you’re over 26, you must pay a monthly health insurance fee).

EU/EEA/CH

If you’re an EU student, you’re subject to the same rules and regulations as Romanian students, including tuition fees. If you want to study in Romania, you must have documents that prove your EU citizenship and also have educational documents such as past diplomas.

Students will have to take an admission exam which can be administered in Romanian, a national minority language (such as Hungarian), or a widespread international language (such as English).
